Date of Assessment: 26 January to 1 March 2026. Afon Health Care limited is a home care service providing support to older people in their homes. At the time of our assessment there was 1 person receiving care from the service. The service registered with the Care Quality Commission on 1 June 2023. We carried out this assessment to provide the service with their first overall rating. The assessment was carried out by 1 inspector and included a visit to the service on the 11 February 2026. We also reviewed records remotely. During the assessment we spoke with the registered manager who was the only staff member. We sought feedback from 1 relative who provided this in a written format. At this assessment we looked at all 33 quality statements and provided the service with an overall rating of good. A clear medicines policy was in place with information about how the medicines process was managed. At the time of the assessment the service was not administering medicines to people. Safeguarding systems were in place, with a clear process in place to report and investigate any concerns reported. The registered manager had good awareness of safeguarding procedures. Risks associated with people’s needs and environmental risks had been assessed, with actions in place to mitigate these. The registered manager was the only staff member employed at the service. They were aware of the safe recruitment practices to follow, when recruiting staff. A recruitment policy was in place, with detailed information, including the pre-employment checks they would carry out. No concerns had been reported regarding late or missed visits. Each care visit was recorded within the person’s notes. The time was logged of the start and end of each visit and the duration. Assessments of people’s needs had been carried out by the registered manager to ensure the service could safely support them. The provider described how they would support people with their health care needs to maintain their health care needs. Consent was obtained before personal care or support with any tasks was given. Care plans were in place, which had been written in a person-centred approach and captured the person’s needs, likes and dislikes. Governance systems were in place with a schedule of audits undertaken. As the registered manager was the only staff member they audited records regularly. The registered manager had a vision to expand and take on further packages of care. They planned to recruit further staff alongside this.
