   This was a targeted CQC inspection of Abilities Short Breaks - Preston Road focused on infection prevention and control during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the service was inspected but not rated. Inspectors were assured across all IPC areas, finding effective PPE use, testing, training, vaccination, communication and policies in place.

   Strengths

   • · Service followed current government visiting guidance with arrangements to manage infection risks and an up to date IPC policy.
   • · All staff had received training about COVID-19, hand washing and proper use of PPE, with monitoring checks and additional training where needed.
   • · Staff and people receiving care had received all doses of the vaccine and regular testing was carried out where possible.
   • · People at particular risk of infection were identified and supported to minimise close physical contact through social distancing or isolation.
   • · Prompt communication during the pandemic with staff, people, relatives, local authority, public health teams and healthcare professionals.
