Date of inspection 3 March to 6 March 2026. Fernsby Brookes Limited is a domiciliary care agency registered to provide personal care to people in their own homes. The service is registered to provide support to younger and older adults. Some of whom are living with dementia, physical disabilities and people with learning disabilities or autism. At the time of our inspection the service was providing the regulated activity personal care to 11 people. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) only inspects the service being received by people provided with personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do, we also consider any wider social care provided. This service registered with us on the 28 November 2022 and started to provide the regulatory activity personal care in July 2023. This is their first inspection. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. Quality and monitoring systems were in place to monitor the safety and quality of the service. However, improvement was needed to ensure medicines were consistently administered and managed in line with the provider’s policy and procedures. Medicines audits and checks were not always effective as they failed to identify some of the issues we found regarding protocols and body maps not being in place for all prescribed medicines and creams. Risks associated with people’s care were assessed and staff understood their responsibilities to keep people safe. Care records informed staff, for example if a person had capacity to make their own decisions or not. Staff supported people in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests. The staff worked in partnership with other professionals to achieve good outcomes for people. Staff were recruited safely and felt valued and supported by the management team and enjoyed working for the provider.
